SETTING AN ENVIRONMENTAL EXAMPLE

In the context of environmental issues linked to global warming, air transport is often a special target. The C2FPA symbolises the willingness of airport managers to combine safety with environmental compliance.

 The C2FPA itself was created to reflect the latest advances in the fields of land use and sustainable development.
The centre was built without bringing in external materials, as local limestone was used and crushed on site. The “EURO 4” trucks used release five times fewer particles and nearly 50% less CO² than the levels required by “EURO 3”, the latest European pollution control standard.

All C2FPA’s fire workshops use LPG gas rather than hydrocarbon. LPG fuel, a mixture of butane and propane, contains neither benzene nor sulphur, which are environmental hazards. LPG combustion releases no particles and significantly reduces CO2 emissions, CO2 being one of the gases causing the greenhouse effect.

In the context of Wildlife Hazard Mitigation, the C2FPA will use steel-loaded cartridges or other similar substitutes instead of lead.

The workshops are equipped with a video network system which instructors can use. Practical training sequences can be recorded and played in the classroom so that a trainee’s actions can be analysed. Within this training framework, trainees are able to watch their own actions.
Water treatment is also exemplary, as 100% of waste water is collected, treated and recycled.

 All fire zones are waterproofed and runoff water from roofs and roads is also collected. The C2FPA therefore goes beyond compliance with current regulations, namely the 1992 Water Act and related enforcement decrees.

The C2FPA combines airport activities and respect for the local community: no odour, no noise, no releases.
C2FPA’s proximity to the town centre ensures a substantial decrease in travel distances and coach usage. This means less pollution and more time for trainees to prepare for their examinations.

A sustainable development approach means

. Mitigating risk to the environment, health, physical/mental well-being and life in general;
. Striking a sustainable balance between economic growth, social change and environmental awareness.
. Involving all stake-holders in this approach: clients, suppliers, colleagues, shareholders and citizens.
The fundamentals:

The 3 fundamentals of sustainable development bring about change and equilibrium. In order to meet the goals of sustainable development, companies, public authorities and civil society must work hand in hand towards reconciling three worlds that have ignored each other until now: the economy, the environment and social issues. In the long term, development will only be possible if it is economically efficient, socially fair and environmentally sustainable.
